Dear Hingham Centre Playground Supporters,
First and foremost, thank you to each and every one of you for your donation to the Hingham Centre Playground - we reached our initial fundraising goal! Wonderful news!
Secondly, I'm writing with a playground update, received from Mark Cullings, who throughout this process has been a key player in helping to ensure that the playground receives the repairs that it so desperately needs - thank you, Mark! He writes:
Selectman Karen Johnson has expressed an interest in gathering the neighborhood together to discuss current plans to rebuild the playground. Here’s the date/time/place.
- Wednesday, July 5th
- At the playground
Please join us!
I expect Karen and Ted Alexiades, Town Administrator, to attend and have more complete information for us. Ted has been instrumental in moving the project forward, and both are very interested in hearing from those of us in the immediate neighborhood.
Here’s where the project stands. Thanks to your generosity we’ve raised (in total) well over $12,000 via direct donations to the Powers Field Playground gift account at Town Hall and via the Fortua crowdfunding page. Also included in the total is a $5,000 grant from the Hingham Sports Partnership. Thank you all!
Here’s some history. As you know, the town was forced to shut the playground down for liability reasons. At the outset, I was quoted a figure of around $11,000 to replace the three pieces of equipment using Town equipment and employees as a cost saving measure. That figure turned out to be more of an estimate, and as town officials looked into it further the figure ballooned. We heard some crazy numbers. Right this minute, however, things seem as though they may be back under control and it’s possible the amount of money raised may cover the expenses. I wouldn’t bet the farm on it, though. Ted and Karen will have more information on Wednesday, but I thought getting the word out about the meeting was important.
I intend phoning people whose names I have to let them know, but please feel free to pass this along and invite others who are interested in supporting the Hingham Centre Playground repairs.
Hope to see you on Wednesday!
On a final note, I will look into keeping the online fundraising page open beyond the four days that remain in the campaign, should further fundraising efforts be required. As ever, please consider sharing the link with family & friends! https://www.fortua.com/campaigns/help-repair-the-hingham-centre-playground
We greatly appreciate your support and hope to see you on Wednesday, July 5th, at 6pm!

Hello Hingham Centre Playground Supporters!
Thank you so much for your donation towards the needed repairs of the Hingham Centre Playground - your contribution really makes a difference in helping to secure a future wherein this neighborhood gem continues to delight local children & their families and friends. I want to let you know that the new playground is now 93% funded - we're getting there, and it's all thanks to your efforts & support!
I also wanted to highlight a significant donation that we recently received from the Hingham Sports Partnership in the form of a grant for $5,000 - thank you, HSP!
Specifically, Mark Cullings applied for a $2,650 grant from the organization and they responded saying:
Great news! HSP voted to donate $5,000 towards the remaining funds needed for the Powers Field Playground. The board thought it was a wonderful community initiative to support.
Let's keep the ball rolling and get this campaign across the funding finish line - please invite your family, friends & neighbors to consider joining us in supporting the desperately needed repairs to the Hingham Centre Playground. It's easy to do - just share this link with them on social media, e-mail and/or via text messaging!
Again, thank you for all that you've done and continue to do in support of the Hingham Centre Playground!
